26 June 2024 – Coller Capital, the world’s largest independent investor dedicated exclusively to private markets secondaries[1], has appointed David Hallifax as Head of Australia and New Zealand Private Wealth Distribution. Mr Hallifax will also lead Coller Capital’s new office in Melbourne, based in 101 Collins Street. The office will be the firm’s strategic hub for our Private Wealth Secondaries Solutions (PWSS) business in the region.
A senior leader in investment management, Mr Hallifax spent almost 10 years as Head of Australia Funds at J.P. Morgan Asset Management and prior to that was Head of Retail Sales for Schroders in Australia. Most recently he worked as Head of Australia and New Zealand at S64, a global Private Markets platform provider. Mr Hallifax holds a Bachelor of Business, Banking and Finance from Monash University.
The announcement follows the recent news that Coller Capital has received regulatory approval to launch its first Luxembourg domiciled ‘SICAV’ fund, Coller International Secondaries Private Equity Fund (CollerEquity), accessible to eligible private wealth investors outside of the U.S. The fund will be seeded with over $400 million of capital from investors globally and invests alongside Coller Capital’s closed-ended vehicles, seeking to deliver a combination of absolute and risk-adjusted returns, diversification, and the opportunity for more liquidity than traditional private equity funds
The senior appointment of Mr Hallifax is the latest in a series of hires that Coller Capital has made to grow the global footprint of its PWSS business. Mr Hallifax will report to Boris Maeder, who was recently appointed as Head of International Private Wealth Distribution. The PWSS team, which launched in 2023, now consists of 30 dedicated individuals.
Boris Maeder, Managing Director, Head of International Private Wealth Distribution, said: “Dave’s arrival is testament to our commitment of supporting our growing global private client base with a local and hands-on approach. Dave brings excellent experience in private markets and investment management, and we are delighted to welcome him to Coller Capital. Alongside our growing team, together we will deliver superior secondaries solutions to private wealth investors in Australia and New Zealand, enabling them to access the increased liquidity, portfolio diversification and risk mitigation that secondaries afford.”
David Hallifax, Director, Head of Australia and New Zealand Private Wealth Distribution, said: “I am excited to join Coller Capital, a pioneer and innovator in the private markets secondaries space. Private wealth investors in Australia and New Zealand increasingly seek to benefit from the enhanced liquidity, risk mitigation, and diversification opportunities that secondaries provide, but there is still much need for asset class education and proper guidance. At Coller our team of private wealth secondaries specialists is well positioned to meet this demand by providing solutions to access our investment capabilities, which have been honed over 34 years.”
Coller Capital, also has offices in London, New York, Zurich, Hong Kong, Beijing, Seoul, and Luxembourg. The firm has $33 billion assets under management[3] and more than 30 years of experience in the market.
